Christ Church and St. Christopher’s, River Hills, are sponsoring a Habitat for Humanity project, the fourth joint venture for our two parishes. Unlike the previous three projects, our current one is a “rehab” instead of new build.

The address of the condo is 9281 W. Allyn Street, which is in a complex of units built in the 1970s. The units are three-bedroom, two-bath homes with a basement, built on multi-levels. The homeowners will buy them for $30,000, with a 30-year, no-interest loan from Habitat.

The current work for the project involves laying laminate floors in the living area and kitchen, laying tile floors in the bathrooms, mounting new kitchen cabinets and rebuilding closets in the bedrooms. Unlike the new building projects, where everyone is working on the same project at once (dry walling, painting, finish work), the rehab project has several kinds of work being done at once, which involves a great deal of cooperation.

We anticipate that the project will be completed by the end of February. If you’re interested in working at Habitat during February (we work on Wednesday and Saturday), call Bill and Mitzi Roy. Many thanks to all who have participated so far.
